2005 Seghesio Family Vineyards Zinfandel Sonoma County

Inky purple color that is consistent all the way to the rim. Flavors of jammy fruit that include cherry and boysenberry. Spicey long finish that had a kick of tannin on the end. This wine is an excellent value for around $17.

2004 St. Clement Oroppas Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

The nose gives off plumb, vanilla and tobacco. Nice mouth feel with a nice mix of currant, Casi’s, and mocha latte. The finish is long and full of cedar. The tannins are fine grained and well proportioned. Overall the wine is to the elegant side of the “New World” style. A “good” value at $50.00 for premium Napa Cabernet.

2001 Castello di Camigliano Brunello di Montalcino

Classic Brunello medium garnet/ruby color. The nose gives off smoke, earth and thyme. The flavors are complex and consist of plumb, toast, blueberry, and vanilla. The fruit is forward but not overdone. The finish is long and tannicand get a little ragged at the end. Overall it’s well put together and might improve even more with additional bottle age. If you are looking for a good introduction into the world of Brunello’s and don’t want to pay north of $50 this might be your wine. This wine needs a little more time in the bottle so be patient.

The wine is not very complex but it enjoyable for a weekday drinker. The price is right at $7.99 in most places like Costco and Total Wine.
