The nose is slightly closed still but shows blackberry, black pepper and damp earth. In the mouth it’s a nice balance of fruit and acidity meaning it’s not over the top with fruit. Blackberry, coconut and sassafras flavors lead the way with a peppery finish thats lingering. “Eddies Patch” is part of the Hoppe-Kelly Vineyard located in the cool northern end of the Russian River Valley. A great example of new world Syrah from California. Another outstanding effort from this very consistent producer.

2007 DuMOL Pinot Noir Russian River Valley
Pale garnet in color. The nose had bold raspberry and cola notes. Nice mix of fruit and acidity on the palate with red cherry, raspberry and a mineral notes that lingers. This wine is a very good example of a California Pinot Noir. Big and bold but not over the top. Excellent.

2006 DuMol Syrah RRV
Last bottle of this vintage 😦 This wine is a very dark hue of purple. Sweet black fruit and caramel aromas fill the glass. Plenty of black currant, blackberry and vanilla balanced nicely with a mineral edge and spicebox across the palate. The tannins are well integrated and linger well past the long finish. A lot going on but all in it’s place. The grapes for this vintage were sourced from throughout the Russian River Valley which explains it’s even composition. Another excellent wine from a very consistent producer of premium California style Syrah.

2006 DuMOL Chardonnay Chloe (USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley)
In the glass it’s a light yellow-gold color. This Chardonnay shows aromas of peach, kiwi and a touch of mineral. The flavors are a complex mix of nectarine, pear, green apple, oak and flint. Sounds like a lot going on however it’s not a big jumble but a nicely layered unfolding of flavors. This is not a Chardonnay for the faint of heart nor for those who prefer unoaked versions. The 2006 Chloe from DuMol sources fruit from the Ritchie Vineyard which is situated in the center of the Russian River appellation. Another outstanding effort from this producer.

2006 DuMOL Pinot Noir Ryan Green Valley (USA, California, Sonoma County, Green Valley)
Spicy wild-berry and raspberry on the nose. The flavors across the palate are wild-berry, cola and plumb. This wine is very well balanced with a nice minerality in the structure. The finish is long with the fine grained tannins hanging on all the way through. It’s an indulgence for most ($75) and hard to find, but a must try if you want to experience artisan wine making in this class of California Pinot Noir. DuMol is at the head of the class when it comes to rich, complex and indulgent California Pinot rs. These wines are crafted so they are worth the extra effort in finding them and the extra price on a special occasion.

2006 DuMOL Syrah Eddie’s Patch (USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley)
Deeply extracted color of India ink and purple.Rare beef and bramble-berry notes begin the journey which leads to mid palate flavors of Asian spice and blackberry. The tannins are fine grained and linger on the mid length finish. Not quite as fruit forward as one would expect from this producer but still outstanding nonetheless.

2006 DuMOL Chardonnay (Russian River Valley)
A nice golden and yellow straw color. The nose gives off a beautiful honeydew and mineral mix. The flavors are lemon oil, vanilla, and a slight mineral aftertaste. This wine is significantly oaked so if that’s not your thing you might find it a bit too much. It did not bother me in that I found it in balance with everything else. Very well made and four square. At $50 this wine is a little outside of what I would consider a “good QPR” but it is a nice indulgence.

2005 DuMOL Syrah Eddie’s Patch
Very dark inky purple in color. The nose gives off dill, white pepper, and blackberry. The flavors are slightly muted from what I have come to expect from this producer which include cassis, spice and smoke. The tannins are gripping all the way through the medium length finish. Slightly disappointing when compared to previous vintages but still outstanding compared to everything else. An indulgence at $76.

2006 DuMOL Pinot Noir Russian River Valley
The nose is a little muted at this point because of the wines youth. It does give off hints of honeysuckle, red berry and mineral. The berry and flower scents hang on through the palate and pick up just a touch of tannins on the finish that lingers. Another great effort from this producer.
