2004 Château Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Popped and poured so nose was a little closed but it did show vanilla hints. . The color was very garnet. Across the palate there were notes of plum, cherry and cake spice all wrapped with a slight mineral edge. The tannins were smooth and well-integrated. Paired well with my Veal Oscar. The grapes for this blend come from the left bank of the Rhone River between the towns f Orange and Avignon. this blend consists of 65% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 10% Cinsault, 5% Mourvede and 5% Counoise- Muscardin- Vaccarèse. An excellent introduction to Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

2006 Château de Nages (Rhône)

DeNagesDense ruby/purple color on this blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre. The nose is rather closed but gives hints of red fruits, wet rocks and white pepper. Across the palate there is a good mix of fruit and minerality with notes of raspberry, black cherry the previously mentioned pepperand anise. It’s light but not “lightweight”. Perfect for summer supper. The fruit comes from old vines Grenache and Syrah from the appellation Costieres de Nimes which is located in the southern Rhone.

2004 Ortas Côtes du Rhône Villages Rasteau Prestige (France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône Villages Rasteau)

The nose has plenty of raspberry and wild-berry fruit with a touch of earthiness. Across the palate lots of dark berry flavors, vanilla, tobacco and a good dose of minerality. At $19 it’s a value  for Cotes du Rhone. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre.

2005 Château Filhot (France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes)

Golden honey color.Very sweet but balanced with everything else thats going on. Pineapple, hazelnut, honey and apricots working well together. Still young but very approachable now. Good QPR for Sauternes. Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend. filhot
